Fight breast cancer

Want to do something more than just click in your fight against breast cancer? How about running or walking to raise money for research, education and patient support. Here are two options, both sponsored by the Komen Foundation:

* The Breast Cancer 3 Day "is a 60-mile walk for women and men who want to make a personal difference in the fight against breast cancer. Participants walk 60 miles in three days, help raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research and patient support programs." Register at The www.the3day.org or call 800-996-3DAY.

* The Race for the Cure "is a series of 112 Races in the United States and two international Races, and the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world. This year, 1.5 million people are expected to participate." Remember you can run or walk.

And if you need more information on breast cancer call 1.800 I'M AWARE (1.800.462.9273) Monday - Friday, 9 am – 5:00 pm Central Time (TDD available).

These are two great ways to get some exercise (which is thought to reduce rates of cancer) and make a positive contribution as the same time. By participating in these walks and runs, you'll not only be helping others, you'll be helping yourself.

Whether or not you walk or run, we can all visit www.thebreastcancersite.com and click the big pink button to donate free mammograms to low income women.

It's fast, it's free, it's easy; and it makes a difference. Click now. Click daily.

Also consider purchasing and using the breast cancer postage stamp, proceeds from which fund breast cancer research.

And take care of yourself by doing regular breast self-exams. Early detection is key!

This from the American Cancer Society:

Free Mammograms

Rumor:

All of us want to feel like we’re doing something to care for those in need. One email says that by simply clicking on a breast cancer Web site, “a woman gets a free mammogram at no cost to you.” The email says corporate sponsors who advertise on the site pay for the mammograms and that you can click on the site only once.

Fact:

In fact, this is not a scam, and the email is, for the most part, accurate. However, it takes not one click but tens of thousands to pay for each mammogram. And you are not limited to one click total, but one click per day. It’s important to note that the breast cancer site is a for-profit company, not a non-profit charity.
